Hypochlorous acid is a more powerful oxidizer than chlorine and a very effective sanitizing agent, Hypochlorous acid kills bacteria, bacterial spores, and viruses 100 times more effectively than chlorine bleach.
It is also used as a wound disinfecting agent, and a skin cleansing agent in cosmetics, in sanitizing wash solutions and swimming pools. In these applications, the reactive chemical is formed in solution by the addition of chlorine to water.
Bleach is a chlorine called sodium hypochlorite, and a little known fact is that hypochlorous acid is a type that is not harmful (no harmful residues or even fumes). It's so gentle that it's frequently used in eye, wound & veterinary care products.
